What better way to start off this blog than to post a picture about the meal that starts off the day, more particularly... brunch! This was one of the first brunch places I went to after moving to Toronto back in fall 2018.
The Green Wood is the perfect spot for a sunny brunch in the east end of Toronto; (not actually on Green Wood Ave. but) located on Queen Street East. With pink tiles on the floors and along the bar and numerous leafy green plants this place has #summervibes🌿 all year long.
We had ordered the Souk Fries (left) and the Salmon Rosti (right); both excellent choices. The portions were very generous as well but we didn't have a single bite left over because it was so good.
The Souk fries were very filling with a combination of your traditional french fries and small potato pieces as well as - deep fried cheese chunks -, mushrooms and a sunny-side egg to top it off. The second dish also had potatoes in the form of hash browns, which are hiding under all that salmon. This dish could have been slightly on the heavier side (not really after the deep fried cheese...) but it was smartly paired with fresh cucumbers and poached eggs to make it more balanced.
The service was great, food came out in a timely manner and we didn't have to wait too long to get a seat (maybe 10 minutes?!). Pretty much your ideal brunch place and very instagram-worthy with the pink tiles and white brick walls.
As if this place couldn't get any better; they make their food with locally sourced ingredients (from Ontario) which probably adds a couple of extra dollars to the price ($$) but most dishes were under $20. The only con was the location; situated on the outskirts of the city, it's hard to get to without a car but if you're in the area it's definitely worth going to!
Thanks to my cousin for suggesting this spot and taking me here! (If you look at the first photo they repurposed old bourbon bottles as water jugs, which my cousin appreciated being a fan of bourbon 😂)
